AAP declares first list candidates for 2017 Punjab state assembly polls

New Delhi: Ahead of the crucial state assembly elections in seven states during 2017 which includes Himanchal Pradesh, Punjab, Gujarat, Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Manipur and Goa. The Aam Admi party (AAP) today announced its first list of 19 candidates for Punjab.

The most prominent contestant of the AAP party is Supreme Court lawyer H.S. Phoolka, who lost the Lok Sabha election in 2014 from Ludhiyana, will again contest Punjab state assembly election in 2017 from Ludhiyana district.

The list of candidates is a mixture of a doctor, an engineer, lawyer, a former MP, sportsmen, an ex-serviceman, activists and traders.

Among the other candidates are ex-Brigadier Raj Kumar (Balachur), lawyer Himmat Singh Shergill (Mohali), Harjot Singh Bains (Sahnewal), Goving Singh Shampura (Fatehgarh Churian) and former MP Mohan Singh Phalianwala (Ferozepur Rural).

The entry of AAP in Punjab elections forced elections to be conducted earlier in the state next year; this is for the first time a three way affair will take place in the polls.

The other two major parties are ruling Akali Dal-BJP coalition and the Congress party.

The AAP has emerged as the most prominent player in the Punjab state.
