Afghan Defence Minister Abdullah Habibi resigns

Kabul: In wake of a terrorist attack at an army base in Balkh province causing death of more than 140 soldiers, Afghan Defence Minister Abdullah Habibi and army chief Qadam Shah Shahim today gave their resignations.

Afghan President Ashraf Ghani has accepted their resignations, media quoted the presidential palace as saying in a statement.

The development follows the Taliban attack at an Afghan army base in Mazar-e-Sharif on April 21.
