Ahmed Patel emerge victorious amid late night drama

New Delhi: Ahmed Patel got the better of BJP nominee in a tough RS poll in Gujarat after late night dramatic developments saw the EC dismissed the votes of two dissident MLAs of the main opposition party for not following the electoral guidelines.

Patel, political secretary to Sonia Gandhi beat Balwantsinh Rajput, who managed to get only 38 votes.

Furthermore, BJP President Amit Shah made his maiden entry into the RS alongside party nominee and Information and Broadcasting Minister Smriti Irani. Both got 46 votes each.

After securing the victory, Patel said that it is a defeat of the most blatant use of money power, muscle power and abuse of state machinery.

He also thanks party leadership and MLA’s for winning the closely fought battle.

If Patel have not been able to win the election, not only it would have been a personal setback but also would have dented the reputation of Sonia Gandhi and Congress in general.
