Shivpal, when questioned about the merger of Quami Ekta Dal(QED) of underworld don Mukhtar Ansari with Samajwadi Party, said that the final decision in the same would be taken by Mulayam Singh Yadav. Rift within the party came after Shivpal at a press conference in the month of June announced the merger of QED with SP. This merger was approved by Akhilesh as he said that it would degrade the party’s image.

Following this, the merger was cancelled.
