All you need to know about Faiz Fazal, Indian Cricket Team’s new inclusion

Selection committee today declared the 16 member squad for the Zimbabwe tour and among the new faces, the most surprising name for the cricket fans was of Faiz Fazal as his name was not anywhere in the ongoing Indian Premier League.

Faiz Fazal bats for Vidarbha and is the lucky lad to get the entry in the India’s ODI and T20I squads for the tour of Zimbabwe next month.

Fazal is aged 30 is the only player in the squad who was not part of the Indian Premier League. However, the Vidarbha batsman was part of Rajasthan Royals until 2011.

Fiaz Fazal is presently playing league cricket in England. Performance in Indian domestic cricket was the ground for his selection in the Indian squad.

He smashed 127 runs in Rest of India’s chase of 480 to win the 2015-16 Irani Cup played against Mumbai. With impactful century and a fifty in India A’s victory in the Deodhar Trophy, young lad came to the limelight.

In the 50-over Vijay Hazare Trophy in 2015-16, he compiled 312 runs at an average of 52 in seven innings, and in the 20-over Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy he scored 205 runs at a strike rate of 102 in nine innings.

With other young players in the squad, Fazal has got a golden chance to prove his mettle under the bolstered leadership of skipper Mahindra Singh Dhoni.
