Mumbai: Bollywood actor Anupam Kher has been appointed as the new chairman of Film and Television Institute of India.
He succeeded former television actor Gajendra Chauhan whose term ended in March. Chauhan was appointed as FTII chief on June 9, 2015. Many FTII students had protested against his appointment, claiming it was a politically-motivated appointment.
Anupam has previously held the post of chairman of the Central Board of Film Certification and the National School of Drama. He was honoured with Padma Shri in 2004 and Padma Bhushan in 2016.
