Assam CM Sarbananda Sonowal to visit Kokrajhar attack site today

Kokrajhar: To look into the recent terror attack in Kokrajhar, Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal will today visit the attack site. The attack claimed lives of 13 civilians. On Friday, the situation here was briefed by Sonowal to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Minister Rajnath Singh.

At the briefing, the CM informed PM Modi and Singh about the incident and that steps were being taken to nab the assailants. Following this, MHA assured full assistance to the state government.

Following the incident, Assam CM cut short his visit to Delhi in between and returned to Assam in the evening. The state government announced a remuneration of Rs 5 lakh to the kins of the deceased and one lakh rupees and free treatment to those injured.

As of now, the Assam Police has held the auto driver whose vehicle was used by the militants to reach the crowded Balajan Tiniali market.

Friday’s attack was carried out by 4 terrorists, as confirmed by additional DGP L R Bishnoi. One of the attackers was killed by the security forces and the police have launched a manhunt to nab the remaining.

A team of the National Investigation Agency (NIA) has been sent to the site of the attack to collect evidence. Situation here is being closely monitored by the central government.

President Pranab Mukherjee and Prime Minister Narendra Modi condemned the incident.
