NEW DELHI: Indian shuttlers B Sai Praneeth and Kidambi Srikanth marched ahead to the quarterfinals of the Australian Open after clinching their respective games.
Praneeth is ranked 14th in the world and registered a 21-15, 18-21, 21-13 win over Huang Yuxiang of China, Srikanth slayed World No. 1 Son Wan-Ho by a 15-21, 21-13 and 21-13 margin.
The women’s doubles pair of Ashwini Ponappa and Sikki Reddy however, lost 21-18, 18-21, 13-21 to Koharu Yonemoto and Shiho Tanaka of Japan.
It was a stupendous beginning for both Srikanth and Praneethhion as Praneeth took a relatively comfortable opening game against the Chinese; however Srikanth struggled to keep pace and emerged second-best.
