BJP is the largest political party in Rajya Sabha now

New Delhi: The BJP has jumped ahead of Congress and become the biggest political party in the Rajya Sabha.

In terms of numbers, BJP now has 58 members against 57 of the main opposition party.

BJP MP Sampatiya Uikey, who was elected to Rajya Sabha following a bypoll in Madhya Pradesh took oath yesterday.

Uikey election was necessitated by the death of Union Minster, Anil Madhav Dave.

Since Narendra Modi became Prime Minister in May 2014, this is for the first time that BJP has become the number one formation in the Upper House.

However, the BJP-led NDA is still short of a decisive majority in the house but with JD(U) coming into the fray, situation has improved immensely.
