Lucknow: The Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) workers stage protest against senior Samajwadi Party (SP) leader and Urban Development Minister Azam Khan of Uttar Pradesh government by beating his effigy with slippers and then putting it on fire over his objectionable remark against Dr Ambedkar.

The BJP workers stage demonstrations across the state on Wednesday against Cabinet Minister Azam for his alleged objectionable remark against Dr Ambedkar.

Azam without naming Dr Bhimrao on Monday in Ghaziabad had said: “The statue (of Ambedkar) pointing its finger into the distance seems to say that not only does it own the plot of land on which it stands, but also the one towards which it points its finger.”

The party will stage dharnas in all districts while raising slogans like ‘Baba sahab ke samman mein, BJP maidan mein’. A delegation will also submit a memorandum to Governor Ram Naik.

State BJP president Keshav Prasad Maurya, demanded that Akhilesh Yadav should remove Azam from his cabinet and also sought a public apology.

Maurya, said in a statement, silence of BSP proves that it is hand-in-gloves with the ruling SP.
