Cloudburst in U’khand kills 20, more than 15 missing

Dehradun: Cloudburst in Uttrakhand today killed atleast 20 people while more than 15 went missing in areas in Uttarakhand’s Pithoragarh and Chamoli districts.

As heavy rain continued to cause destruction and resulted in triggered landslides and flash floods leading to many getting buried under the debris.

Following the heavy downpour, eight bodies were recovered from Pithoragarh’s Didihat and Thal tehsil.

Minimum of 12 families were affected as people were buried under the debris of their damaged houses. Three persons died due to heavy rains and landslips in Chamoli district and six went missing.

Director of the Dehradun Meteorological Centre Bikram Singh while issuing an alert for 72 hours stated: “We have issued a warning for areas in Dehradun, Haridwar, Pauri, Almora, Nainital, Champawat and Udham Singh Nagar district since there is possibility of heavy to very heavy rainfall over 72 hours (starting Friday morning).”
