Mumbai: The Congress party accused the Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) of trying to gain political advantage and publicity from the foundation stone laying programme of the Chhatrapati Shivaji memorial event which will done by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
According to the Congress party, government is spending Rs 18 crore for the publicity of the event and the same money will be used for promoting PM Modi and Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis’s image in the public. Congress even laid emphasis on the point that money that should be used for the construction instead of using it in the publicity of the BJP leaders.
As per the reports, Ashok Chavan, the President of Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) went on to say that: “Instead of wasting money on marketing the two leaders, the amount should be utilised for construction of the memorial.”
Modi will be laying the foundation stone for the Chhatrapati Shivaji memorial event and will be present there on an island located in Arabian Sea off the city coast on December 24.
Chavan further went on to say that: “When we assured this in our manifesto the BJP never spoke about it. We even made the budgetary provision for the project. BJP is politicizing the event. Fishing community has some reservations and the government should resolve them.”
