Lucknow: Congress leader Akhilesh Das died today after he suffered heart attack. Das aged 61 and was admitted in the cardiology department of KGMU.
Akhilesh Das was the President of Badminton Association of India, Vice President of Badminton Asia Confederation, Member – Executive Council of Badminton World Federation & Vice President of Indian Olympic Association.
Das had served as the Mayor of Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh) from May 1993- Nov 1996 and contributed extensively in the development of the city.
Ahead of Uttar Pradesh assembly elections, Akhilesh Das had few months back joined the Congress again in the presence of senior party leaders, claiming it to be his “ghar wapasi”.
Das was Minister of Steel in the Manmohan Singh cabinet during UPA-1, and had later quit the Congress to join BSP. And then decided to join Congress again ahead of UP assemble elections 2017.
