Defence ministry wants additional budget

New Delhi: The defence ministry wants additional Rs. 20,000 crore from the finance ministry in order to fulfill its important needs to meet the defence preparedness of the country, amidst battle with China.

Although, the defence ministry officials are not accepting this fact but insiders say it is quite unusual on the part of defence ministry to demand extra budget.

In July, as tension on borders with Pakistan and China intensifies, the Narendra Modi government had allowed the Army to make ‘emergency procurements,’ without going through the red-tape.

A notification in this regard issued by the government last week empowered Vice Chief of the Army to make hardware procurements up to Rs 40 thousand crore get rid of pivotal deficiencies.

It is worthwhile mentioning that Army has come up with deficiencies in 46 kinds of ammunition and certain spares for 10 different types.
