New Delhi: Today, the Election Commission might make an announcement on the schedule for the Bihar Assembly Elections this year. As per reports, an announcement on the same was to come yesterday; however for reasons unknown, the poll panel had postponed the dates.
To finalize on the schedule, the poll panel comprising of Chief Election Commissioner Nasim Zaidi and Election Commisioners AK Jyoti and Om Prakash Rawat met in New Delhi yesterday. Sources close to the development say that the announcement is likely to come today.
Reports are that the Bihar Assembly Polls will be held in 5-7 phases and will kick in mid-October, which means that the phases will cover more than a month and will get over before Diwali which falls on November 11.
The finalization of the polls schedule might have been difficult for the Election Commission as the poll comes amidst many important festivals including Dussehra, Lakshmi Puja, Kali Puja, Diwali and Chatt Puja.
