Famous ‘Afghan Girl’ arrested on corruption charges in Pakistan

Peshwar: A famous girl from Afghanistan of National Geographic channel, Sharbat Bibi was today arrested by the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) in Pakistan on corruption charges.

Photographer from National Geographic channel, Steve McCurry took photo of a girl from Afghanistan during a refugee camp near Peshwar in the year 1984.

Sharbat, became popular in world as Afghan girl, after McCurry took her photograph for the cover page of National Geographic Magazine in the year 1985.

Sharbat was at the age of 12-years at that time.

According to famous news paper of Pakistan mentioned that National Geographic channel has made a documentary about her life and called her the Mona Lisa of Afghan War.

FIA told sources, Biba was arrested from her residence today for forging a Computerised National Identity Car.

She has dual Pakistani and Afghan nationality and both the ID cards have been recovered from her.

Bibi remained anonymous for years after a picture of her made the cover of National Geographic. She was eventually located in 2002 by the magazine.

After her family granted her permission to meet with McCurry, who photographed her 17 years earlier, he said he knew immediately that he had found her again.
