Gauri Lankesh Murder Case: Killers identified, SIT gathering evidence

Bengaluru: Home Minister Ramalinga Reddy on Monday said that the killers of journalist and activist Gauri Lankesh have been identified but the investigation team probing the murder case, is gathering more concrete evidence.

According to reports, the Special Investigation Team (SIT) has got some clues on the killers and gathering more evidence to prove them guilty.

“We know about them( killers) but can’t go public without evidence,” said Reddy.

Gauri (55) was shot dead by unidentified assailants outside her house on September 5.

“We need hard evidence against the suspects to file even a charge-sheet against them in a court. Otherwise, the case will not stand for trial,” said the Home Minister.

Lankesh’s murder triggered national protest, alleging that it proves an intolerance of dissent.

Recently, actor Prakash Raj hit out at Prime Minister Narendra Modi for being silent on Gauri’s murder. He also criticized those supporters of the right wing who have been celebrating the murder on social media.

He said that many of those celebrating Gauri’s death are persons followed by the prime minister on social media.
