Srinagar: On Saturday, the Amarnath Yatra was suspended after the encounter of terror out Hizbul Mujahideen’s commander Burhan Wani. This order comes to avoid any untoward incident from taking place. Also, the mobile internet services have been suspended in the Kashmir Valley.
A confirmation in the same came from CRPF DG, who said, “As of now the Amarnath Yatra is suspended, all yatris have been given full protection.”
He added, “The Amarnath Yatra will recommence as soon as the situation improves.”
A senior police official in Jammu said, “No yatri was allowed to move from Bhagawati Nagar Yatri Niwas in Jammu city towards the valley due to prevailing tension following the killing of Hizbul Mujahideen commander Burhan Wani.”
Recent reports suggest that it was Burhan’s girlfriend who informed the police about his whereabouts which led to the killing of the Hizbul Mujahideen commander. His girlfriend was reportedly unhappy with Burhan’s relations with other girls and that is supposedly why she got him killed by the security forces.
On the other hand, Hurriyat Conference chairman Syed Ali Geelani and separatist leader Asiya Andrabi have called for a state wide shutdown and have asked the people to take part in the funeral of the Wani. Also, to avert any protests from the separatist side, heavy security personnel has been deployed in Pulwama, Shopian, Ananatnag and Sopore.
Also, rail services from Baramulla to Banihal town have also been suspended.
The 21-year-old was cornered in Bumdoora village of Kokernag Friday morning by a joint team of the police and the Army. Burhan has a bounty of Rs 10 lakh on his head.
