Gomti River Front project scam worth crores, say experts

High-powered committee that was set up by the newly elected Yogi government in Uttar Pradesh has come up with the conclusion that there are big loop holes in the funds distribution and construction of the river front in Lucknow.

Gomti riverfront development project begun by the Samajwadi Party government is now under scanner and several highly ranked officials are expected to face the fire soon.

Earlier, UP chief minister Aditya Nath Yogi had inspected the construction of the Gomti riverfront and had expressed his dissatisfaction over the quality of work and had ordered an inquiry to be conducted by Justice (retired) Alok Kumar Singh.



According to sources, newly formed report says, senior officers in the government and engineers and contractors involved in the Gomti Riverfront Development project have been equally involved in the unlawful distribution of the funds released for the project. Roop Singh Yadav (then XCN) is expected to face the legal action int his scam.

Report says that 95 percent of the fund was released in quick succession of time and out of the total 1513 crores allotted 1437 crore got released and not even 60 percent of the work got completed in time.



Justice Singh was assisted by professor of finance at IIM-Lucknow AK Garg and retired professor of riverine engineering at IIT-BHU UK Chaudhary. The project was started when Shivpal Yadav was the irrigation minister and Deepak Singhal was the principal secretary of the department.

Retired professor UK Chaudhary also mentioned that there was no technical aspects kept in mind during the construction while professor of finance at IIM-Lucknow AK Garg gave information that there was unnecessary excessive use of funds.
