New Delhi: The Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) led central government today puts ban on the NGO of controversial Islamic preacher Zakir Naik’s Islamic Research Foundation (IRF) for five years with immediate effect.

The ban on IRF has been approved at a Union cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and it was enforced under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).

Earlier, the government on November 4th, through a gazette notification, had put the IRF under prior permission category.
