Govt. to retake exams of Bihar toppers who failed to answer basic questions

Patna: Bihar’s education system came under scanner soon after the toppers of the Bihar School Examination Board was announced. The students who have been listed as toppers in the board examination of the state, have no knowledge what so ever of the subjects they had, thereby revealing the proficiency of the educational system.

In an interview, of the state level toppers is heard mis-pronouncing ‘Political Science’ and saying that the subject is all about cooking. The video has gone viral on the social media showing the girl not being able to answer the simple questions about the subjects in which she has passed with distinction.

As of now, the result of these toppers has been put on hold. Also, all the Class 12 toppers in Science, Arts and Commerce streams have been asked to appear before the team for an interview and along with this they will have to give a written examination.

Confirming the same, a senior official said, “The Bihar School Examination Control Board (BSECB) has stayed the results of Class 12 Science and Arts toppers and decided to conduct their interviews. A special team will re-check their answer sheets also.”

BSECB Chairman Lalkeshwar Prasad Singh said, “The BSECB asked the Class 12 toppers in Science, Arts and Commerce streams to appear for interviews and written examination on June 3 after it was reported that they lacked even basic knowledge about their subjects.”

Singh further said that if they fail in the interview, their results too will be cancelled.

Also, a board official said, “The Bihar School Exam Committee of the Education Department has decided for the first time to conduct interviews of Class 12 exam toppers. A committee of the education board will interview them.”

Apart from this, Bihar Education Minister Ashok Choudhary said that action would be taken against the officials who are found guilty in the case.

List of toppers include – Rubi Kumari, who topped in Class 12 (intermediate) Arts stream,  and Saurabh Sresth who topped in Class 12 (intermediate) Science stream.
