Hallabaloo in Parliament over Una incident

New Delhi: On Wednesday, there was a hullabaloo in the Parliament over the incident of the seven Dalit youths being thrashed on allegations of killing a cow and then skinning it last week in Una town, Gujarat.

The opposition – Congress, BSP, TMC and JD(U) who were raising the issue, reached the well of the house which resulted in the adjournment of the Rajya Sabha for 10 minutes and later till noon by the Deputy Chairman PJ Kurien.

Ruckus was created by the opposition legislators, however the proceedings continued. Congress had given a notice in the Lok Sabha for the discussion on the Una incident.

At Congress’ parliamentary meet, Sonia Gandhi said, “We will raise the Una incident issue in Parliament.”

Also, she attacked the Central government saying, “Brutal atrocities against SC, ST and other minorities are continuing with impunity and shaming us all. The government has snatched the rights of tribals, Dalits and traditional forest dwellers under the Forest Rights Act, 2006 and is weakening environment rights.”

Protesting over the assault on the Dalit youths and suicide, the communities right organizations have called for a state-wise shutdown today.
