Hawala trader Paras Lodha arrested by Enforcement Directorate

New Delhi: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) today made the arrest of hawala trader Paras Mal Lodha here for converting old notes linked to businessman J. Shekhar Reddy and lawyer Rohit Tandon into new currency. The amount exceeded Rupess 25 crore that was been converted.

ED official stated: “We had called Lodha on Wednesday for questioning him over the conversion of more than Rs 25 crores of old notes to new currency in Shekhar Reddy and Rohit Tandon cases. He was arrested late Wednesday night.”

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) yesterday took previous Tirumala Tirupathi Devasthanams (TTD) Board Member and industrialist J. Sekhar Reddy and two others into custody for alleged money laundering.

In the last few days Income Tax (IT) department had detained 177 kg of gold and cash count upto Rs 96 crore in old 500 and 1,000 rupee notes and Rs 34 crore in new currency from businessman J. Shekhar Reddy.
