Heavy Rains bring life to standstill in Uttarakhand; 12 dead in cloud burst

Dehradun: On Friday, cloudburst in Uttarakhand’s Pithoragarh town left around 12 dead and as many as 30 is feared to be buried in the debris. Reports are that the landslide also occurred in the Chamoli district. It was caused by heavy rains in the region.

Cloudburst was reported in Bastadi area, 50 km from Uttarakhand’s Pithoragarh town. 12 dead bodies have been recovered and 30 others are still missing. The state, in the last 24 hours has received 54 mm rainfall.

Heavy rainfall and landslide near Devprayag led to blocked Rishikesh-Badrinath National Highway (NH-58). Also, the Thal-Munsyari road has been blocked with people stuck on both the sides.

Rains have also damaged the Yamunotri highway, near Kharadi.

Also, warning of heavy rainfall has been issued by the MeT department especially in the Nainital, Udhamsingh Nagar and Champawat districts over the next 3 days.
