Indian Muslims are feeling insecure, declares Hamid Ansari

NEW DELHI: Outgoing Vice President Hamid Ansari is of the opinion that there is a sense of unease and insecurity among the Muslims.

Ansari made these remarks in the wake of cases of “intolerance” and cow vigilantism.

He also described the questioning of citizens over their love for India as a “disturbing thought”.

Vice President termed the cases of lynching and ‘ghar wapsi’ as a “breakdown of Indian values/

He has no doubt in accepting the fact that the Muslim community is apprehensive at this juncture.

Ansari said India is a plural society that has for so many years,  has lived in a certain “ambience of acceptance” which is feeling the heat right now.

With regard to triple talaq, Ansari said it is a social aberration, not a religious need.
