IS claims responsibility of Nice terror attack; 80 killed

Nice (France): On Thursday, around 80 people were killed and many others were injured in Nice when a truck ran into a crowd. Officials said that the attack came soon after the fireworks display on the occasion of Bastille Day which is a national holiday in France. The atrocious attack was claimed by the terror outfit ISIS.

As per reports, the truck driver was shot dead after mowing down the crowd for nearly two kilometers on the palm-lined Promenade des Anglais. The attack created a hullabaloo in the area with hundreds of the people going helter skelter.

Interior ministry spokesperson Pierre-Henry Brandet said, “An individual drove a truck into the crowd. He was killed by police.” A picture of the truck shows it in a damaged state and bullet holes.

The attack was condemned by US President Barack Obama who said that it was a horrific attack.

Dozens of bodies lay on the ground covered with white sheet, hours after the attack. An investigation in the same has been handed over to the anti-terrorist investigators.

Looking into the attack, French President would hold meet today with the country’s defence and security chiefs.
