Jolt for Mukhtar Ansari as HC declines parole

New Delhi: Decision of not getting parole has come as a jolt for the gangster-turned-politician Mukhtar Ansari as he was today denied parole by the High Court for campaigning in the ongoing Uttar Pradesh polls.

Justice Mukta Gupta permitted the plea of the Election Commission (EC) that moved the high court demanding a trial court’s order conceding bail to Ansari till March 4 for campaigning in the polls.

Ansari is taking part in the Assembly elections on a Bahujan Samaj Party ticket and will fight from Mau Sadar constituency.

Earlier, the Election Commission moved the court and sought the termination on the ground that Ansari possibly will influence witnesses in the 2005 murder case and following that high court had on February 17 stayed the custody parole.
