Labourers beaten to death by UP Police over bribe denial in Mainpuri

Mainpuri: It yet another case of high handedness, two laborers were beaten to death supposedly by the policemen for refusing to pay a bribe of Rs 100 in Mainpuri district, Uttar Pradesh. Bodies of the two laborers were found floating in a pond here on Friday.

On recovering the bodies, villagers from Ghiror area and families of the deceased, called for protests blocking the main road and also thrashed two police officers who reached the site to control the situation.

Mainpuri superintendent of police (SP) Devranjan Verma in his statement to a daily said that a complaint has been submitted accusing the six policemen including two home guards of killing two men.

SP Mainpuri, Devranjan Verma said, “We are probing and have registered an FIR. Action will be taken against the culprits.”

As per the complaint, four laborers travelling in a truck loaded with bricks were stopped by the policemen at a checkpost after which they demanded a bride of Rs 100 for allowing the truck to pass. Refusing to pay the bribe, the laborers then got into a brawl with the policemen. Out of the sic laborers, 4 managed to escape whereas the other two held were beaten him brutally.

Their bodies were found floating in a pond nearby. Also, a video of the policemen thrashing the laborers has gone viral on the social media.
