Local policeman killed by terrorists during fresh gunfight in Kashmir valley

Srinagar: During a fresh gunfight between militants and security forces a local cop was killed in the northern part of Jammu and Kashmir’s Baramulla district today.




According to a senior police officer told media persons, “Following specific information, about a group of militants hiding in the forest area of Zaloora near Sopore town, security forces launched an operation during which a local policeman was reportedly killed.”




He further said, “As the security forces, including troops of 20 Rashtriya Rifles and Special Operations Group (SOG), closed in on the hiding militants, the insurgents opened indiscriminate fire killing a police constable.”

The victim cop was identified as Muhammad Shafi.

The officer said, the militants appeared to have escaped but the combing operation is still on to find out terrorists.
