New Delhi: On Tuesday, Union Minister Venkaiah Naidu announced the 13 winners of the Fast track Smart City competition. The competition was topped by the capital of Uttar Pradesh, Lucknow.
The list of the winners of the Fast track Smart City competition is as follows:
- New Town Kolkata
- Port Blair
The completion also saw the participation by the 23 highest ranking cities of the many states and union territories; however they did not event get representation in the very first round of the competition.
Also, only 12 states and UTs were represented in the first list of 20 mission cities announced in ‘Smart City Challenge Competition’ which was announced on January 28.
The major highlights of the smart city project included assured and power supply, sanitation and solid waste management systems, efficient urban mobility and public transportation, IT connectivity, e-governance and participation by the citizens.
As per the Smart City Mission, by 2019-20, 100 cities will be developed with the Rs 48,000 crore fund provided by the Union government. As of now, for 2015-16, 20 smart cities were selected and another 40 will be selected during 2016-17 whereas the remaining will be selected in the next financial year.
The cities which have been selected in the different rounds of competition will be given central assistance of Rs 200 crore in the first year and Rs 100 crore each during the subsequent three financial years.
