Lucknow: On Sunday, a mob in Kanpur’s Maharajpur area, lynched a 42-year-old man after accusing him of being a Pakistani terrorist, as per police officials. Reports are that nine people were arrested for being supposedly involved in the killing of the unidentified man.
All nine of them have been remanded in judicial custody and officers investigating in the matter are making all possible efforts of identify the deceased. The attack came after rumors spread that there was a Pakistani terrorist in the area.

Talking on the same, Sheikh Ram Rawat, Sheikhpura police outpost incharge said, “While questioning him about his background, the locals started beating him up. More people from nearby localities joined in and assaulted the man with sticks. Some of them hit him with a sharp edged weapon.”
Apart from this, Akhilesh Kumar, Station Officer, Maharajpur said that when the police reached the site, the group was trying to throw the man in a river. He added, “After seeing the police, they left the victim and fled. We have concluded that the victim is a Muslim after physical verification.”
Police has arrested Arun Kumar, Praveen Kushwaha, Raghvendra and Akhilesh Yadav of Shekhpur village; Bajnath Yadav, Ram Sajeevan, Abhishek Kumar and Kallu Kashyap of Jana village; and Rohit Yadav of Pyondi village. They have been booked under IPC sections 147 (rioting), 148 (rioting armed with deadly weapon) and 302 (murder).
The unidentified man was rushed to the hospital where he was declared dead by the doctors. As of now, the police is on with its investigation.
