Modi slams opposition for blocking Parliament’s functioning over demonetization

New Delhi: India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi today slammed opposition parties for blocking Parliament’s functioning over demonetization and asked Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) MPs to support people to embrace a digital and cashless economy.

Modi while addressing a BJP’s Parliamentary board meeting in New Delhi, thanked people for their support over the demonetisation of currency notes of high-value Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 which was announced by the government on November 8th.

Parliamentary Affairs Minister Ananth Kumar said on behalf of Modi wanted a public wakefulness campaign in regards to the encourage people to go cashless economy.

One of BJP leader quoted as Modi saying, “The opposition is not allowing Parliament to function. I went to the Rajya Sabha but they shouted slogans. Despite this, I sat there. We are ready to discuss but they are reluctant. You go to your areas, talk to the people and expose the opposition.”

According to sources, Modi said: “Janshakti hanare sath hai aur janashakti hamesha rajshakti se upar hoti hai (We have people’s power with us and it is all above political power).”

The sources quoted Modi as saying that the people are helping one another after demonetisation in a similar way they help one another during natural calamities.
