Munich Mall Shooting: 18-year-old Iranian gunman kills 9; shoots himself

Munich: On Friday in the evening, an 18-year-old German-Iranian Gunman supposedly opened fire in a shopping mall in Munich. The incident left 9 dead. It is the third deadly attack which has occurred in Western Europe in the last eight days.

The attacker who was a dual national was found dead by the Munich Police. He had shot himself in his head.

Initially, on the basis of eye witness, the police had said that they were looking for three suspects who were involved in the attack at the Shopping centre, however later the authorities issued a statement saying that Andrae was the only shooter to have carried out the attack. The attacker has opened fire at a fast food restaurant first before going down to the mall.

The attack left sixteen people, including number of children injured. Also, three of them were in critical condition. The attack affected the people of the city as the life came to a standstill here. Also, the reason behind the attack is not known yet.

German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeiser said, “The motives for this abhorrent act have not yet been completely clarified – we still have contradictory clues.”

The attack was not claimed by any of the terror groups, however IS celebrated on the social media with their tweet, “The Islamic state is expanding in Europe.”

Also, reports are that there were no such link between the shooter or the IS groups or any other militant group.
