Rome: An Muslim woman belongs to Albania has been fined 30,000 euros today after she refused to take off her niqab (face-veil) in a public building in San Vito al Tagliamento in Italy.
A judge transformed a four-month prison sentence handed to the woman into a 30,000 fine plus 600 euros cost in the province of Pordenone on Friday.
According to international web media, woman repeatedly ignored request of a mayor to remove her niqab who entered in a meeting last month at San Vito al Tagliamento town hall.
He called the police and asked to remove the 40-year-old woman from the council assembly.
