Nirmala Sitharaman to review border situations in J&K

Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on her two day visit to Jammu and Kashmir will review the preparedness of the soldiers on borders and security and this will also be her first official visit as the defence minister of the country since she took over.

According to the information given by the sources in the ministry, she will be visiting the forward posts on the line of control (LoC) in the Valley, the line of actual control (LAC) between India and China in the Ladakh region.

Subsequent to that she will be visiting the Siachen Glacier—world’s highest battle field at an altitude 5,400 metres during the visit.

“Chief of Army Staff General Bipin Rawat is likely to accompany the defence minister during her J&K visit,” sources said.

Apart from all this the defence minister will also review the security situation in the valley with top army commanders laying emphasis on anti-militancy operations those have taken a heavy toll of militants in the last several months.

From the time security forces commenced the operation ‘All out’, maximum number of commanders of various militant outfits has been eliminated.

Sources further informed: “Anti-militancy operations will be reviewed by the defence ministry during her stay in the state.”
