On behalf of Tamil Nadu govt Jaya thank Modi for metro rail extension sanction

Chennai: Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, J.Jayalalithaa today thanked Narendra Modi for having granted the clearance for implementation of the Chennai Metro Project Phase I Extension.

Union cabinet’s permission for extending the metro rail service came as a big boost for the Tamil Nadu government.

In a letter to Modi, Jayalalithaa said: “I understand that the Union Cabinet has accorded approval to the proposal to extend Corridor I of Phase I of the Chennai Metro Rail Project from Washermanpet to Tiruvotriyur / Wimco Nagar covering a further 9.51 km at a cost of Rs 3,770 crore.”

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister today further went on to say that most of the work has been done since its beginning in May 2011 comprising of the physical work and financial expenditure on the Chennai Metro Rail Project.
