Pakistan army trying to disturb Independence Day celebrations

Jammu and Kashmir: Pakistani Army troops trying to spoil celebration of India’s Independence Day by violating ceasefire as they opened fired at Indian post near the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir region today.

According to Indian military, the Pakistani troops opened unprovoked firing at Indian positions near Jammu region during which a woman was injured in the firing.

Indian Army spokesperson Lt Col Manish Mehta told media persons; the Pakistan Army targeted “our positions in Poonch district.”

“They used small arms and automatics. Our army has retaliated using same calibre weapons,” he added.

In a separate incident, 11 pilgrims of the Amarnath Yatra were injured when three men hurled a grenade near the shrine.

Tensions have mounted along the LoC in Jammu and Kashmir as Pakistan and India celebrate their Independence Day on Sunday and Monday respectively.

The Pakistan Army has resorted to unprovoked firing at Indian positions around August 14 and 15 since the separatist campaign in Jammu and Kashmir erupted in 1989.
