Pakistan formally announces cancellation of 19th Saarc Summit

Islamabad: Pakistan today formally announced that it has cancelled the 19th Saarc Summit which was scheduled to be held in Islamabad on 8th November.

According to Pakistan Foreign official, “the spirit of the Saarc Charter is violated when a member state casts the shadow of its bilateral problem on the multilateral forum for regional cooperation.”

The official further added, “Pakistan attaches great importance to regional cooperation under the umbrella of Saarc and remains committed to hosting the 19th Saarc Summit in Islamabad at the earliest.”

Pakistan neghbouring country India has decided not to participate first in the summit in wake of terrorists attack in Uri district of Jammu and Kashmir on September 18th, which was followed by Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan and on Friday Sri Lanka also said that participating in Summit without India’s participation is useless.

The statement also said that Pakistan condemned India’s decision to hamper the Saarc process by not attending it, which was slated for November 9-10.
