Aizawal: On Friday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will flag-off the first broad-gauge train between Bairabi and Silchar stations via video conferencing, as per media reports .
To check the operability of the tracks, the train was run on a trial basis on May 24 and May 25 under the supervision of the Railways Safety Commissioner SK Pathak.
Talking on the same, SK Pathak said, “The condition of tracks, bridges as well as the train speed was inspected.”
Before reaching Silchar, the train will pass through Katakhal in Cachar.

Apart from this passenger train, the first broad-gauge freight train in the state was flagged on March 21. Before the construction of the Railway Tracks, the only lifeline linking Aizawl with the rest of the country was the National Highway 54. The rail services will now help boost the economy of the state and thus help commute easily.
