New Delhi: Rajya Sabha MP Smriti Irani who attracted lot of controversy during her office as Human Resource Development (HRD) Minister was removed from the ministry by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and has thereby been handed over the low-profile Textiles Ministry. Also, the HRD Ministry is now being handed over to Prakash Javadekar.
Irani was chosen personally by PM Modi despite objections by the RSS. However, during office, she landed into controversies namely the protest in JNU, Delhi and protests over the killing of scholar Rohith Vemula in Hyderabad.
As per reports, Environment Minister Javadekar was chosen as the HRD Minister as he left a positive impact not only on PM Modi but also on RSS by carrying out an extensive ‘Swachh Bharat’ campaign and also pursuing environment diplomacy at the international level on climate change and related matters.
Where on one hand, 19 ministers have been elevated to PM Modi’s cabinet, one of them being demoted is Smriti Irani and six others have been sacked namely – Nihalchand, Ram Shankar Katheria, Sanwar Lal Jat, Manuskhbhai D Vasva, GM Siddeshwara and M K Kundariya.
RSS is said to be the one behind Irani’s removal from the post as they found it not easy to deal with her. However, her removal is not a punishment but a major step ahead as reports are that she might be made the CM candidate for the 2017 Assembly polls.
