Priest arrested for stopping Dalit girl from drinking water inside temple; attacking her father

Lucknow: In a shameful incident, a Dalit man and his daughter were attacked by the priest of a temple in Uttar Pradesh’s Sambhal district for drinking water inside the temple.

As per reports, the 13-year-old was stopped by the priest from drinking water inside the temple for she was a Dalit. Also, when the girl’s father approached the priest to defend himself, he was attacked with a trident by him.

Following this, the Dalit family registered a case against the priest under the SC/ST Act. Also, the priest has been arrested.

This is not the first time when an incident with the Dalits has come into limelight as recently in Gujarat’s Una district few Dalits by beaten up by the ‘gau rakshaks’ who alleged that they had killed and then skinned a cow. This incident created a stir within the political arena.

Also, PM Modi during his recent address in Hyderabad, raised concern over the recent attacks of the Dalits and at the same time attacked the so-called ‘gau rakhshaks’ by calling them opportunists.
