Chandigarh: Self-styled godman Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh has suffered a massive blow on Monday after the Punjab and Haryana High Court accepted an appeal, seeking life imprisonment for the Dera Sacha Sauda chief.
As per reports, the appeal was filed by the two rape victims after Ram Rahim challenged Panchkula Special CBI court’s verdict against him in Punjab and Haryana Court.
The high court has admitted separate pleas filed by Ram Rahim and the rape survivors.
According to sources, the court also issued a notice to the CBI over Rahim Rahim’s plea. Both the pleas will be heard together
The special CBI court gave Gurmeet Singh to 20 years imprisonment for raping two of his women disciples. He is currently locked in Sunaira jail in Rohatk district.
The court has also directed Ram Rahim’s counsel to deposit Rs 30 lakh as fine within two months. The money is to be paid to the rape survivors (Rs15 lakh in each rape case).
Sources reveal that Gurmeet’s counsel has said that the dera chief is not in the position to pay the fine as all his properties have been attached.
Meanwhile, Ram Rahim’s adopted daughter Honeypreet Insan has been sent to six days police remand by a Panchkula court. Honeypreet and other dera members were booked for inciting violence in Panchkula on August 25.
If sources are to be believed, she has allegedly paid Rs 1.25 crore to a dera member to arrange logistics to spread violence.
