Rahul Gandhi to take charge as Congress President in September: Reports

New Delhi: Amid reports of bringing Priyanka Gandhi to campaign in 2017 UP Assembly Polls, there are reports that Congress Vice President, Rahul Gandhi will be elevated to the post of the party President this September.

A leading news agency quoted a senior leader on grounds of anonymity as saying that the Gandhi scion might take charge as Congress President in September.

The All India Congress Committee (AICC) had hinted in the month of May that Rahul might be elevated to the post of the party’s President following its defeat in the Assembly Polls. Also, in the month of June senior Party leader Jairam Ramesh said, “Rahul Gandhi is de facto Congress chief but he should become de jure.”

Also, Ramesh for quite some time now wanted Rahul to take charge as the party’s president and prepare them against PM Modi’s BJP.

Rahul was made the vice president of the party in 2013 at the Jaipur ‘chintan shivir’.
