Swamy in his statement to a news agency said, “He (Patel) has a PhD in economics and a degree from Yale, Raghuram Rajan had no degree in economics. After engineering, he did management. He did not have the general equilibrium regarding economics. Urjit Patel has been the deputy governor for so many years now, so this will not be new for him. I have high hopes from him.”

Rajan, whose term as the RBI governor ends of September 4, 2016 said that after this he would return to academia and that he would always be there to serve the country in time of need. Also, he went on to say that Urjit who would be stepping in his shoes soon would take the nation to new heights.

Whereas, accepting Rajan’s decision over the same, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley said that the Centre appreciates good work done by him.
