Rajasthan: Couple arrested for killing 6-day-old girl child

Jaipur: Police have arrested a Rajasthan couple on Wednesday, who abandoned their 6-day baby girl at a deserted place because they wanted a son. The infant died in a hospital.

According to reports, Veeram Lal(40) and Soram Bai (35), parents of five sons and a daughter, left the baby at a deserted place after heaping stones on her because they wanted another son.

A senior police official has said that the couple has been arrested for abandoning the newborn leading to her death.

“Soram Bai was admitted to government women’s hospital on October 4. She gave birth to a girl child the next day and was discharged after six days on Tuesday afternoon,” said the police official.

Sources say that after returning from the hospital,the couple went to a scheduled place near Food Corporation of India warehouse on the Jhalarapatan road to abandon the newborn. A local boy saw the couple heaping stones on the infant and raised an alarm. Some locals caught the couple and handed them over to police.

As per sources, the baby was rushed to the hospital where she died around midnight. Soram and Veeram belong to Thobariya village in Bakani region in Jhalawar.
