Rita Bahuguna Joshi breaks relation with Congress party, joins BJP

New Delhi: Uttar Pradesh former Congress President Rita Bahuguna Joshi today gave a big jolt to the Congress by breaking her 24 years old relationship with the party by joining Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ahead of the crucial state assembly elections which is lined up in 2017.

Months ahead of the Uttar Pradesh assembly elections, senior Congress leader Rita Bahuguna Joshi joined the BJP in the presence of party chief Amit Shah.

Former veteran leader said it was not an easy decision for her but she had taken it in the interest of the country and Uttar Pradesh. Rita was associated with the Congress party for 24 years.

The former President of the Congress state unit, who represented Lucknow Cantt, told media persons, that she had resigned her membership of the state assembly.

Bahuguna’s brother and former Uttarakhand Chief Minister Vijay Bahuguna joined the BJP some time back.
