SC condemns participation of imprisoned politicians in elections, asks EC to make their stand clear

Lucknow: In a reply to the PIL filed by the Bharatiya Janata Party leader Ashwini Kumar Upadhyay, Supreme Court today questioned the Election Commission that whether the politicians who are contesting in the elections from prison should further be allowed to take part in the elections or not.

Strongly condemning the participation of imprisoned politicians in the elections, SC asked the Election Commission to make its stand clear on the matter and also express whether it supports the ban on politicians who have several charges against them to take part in the elections or not.

Keeping in mind that earlier many such politicians including Raja Bhaiya, Mukhtar Ansari, Vijay Mishra and Sushil Singh who had several charges against them not only participated in the elections from jail but also won.

Now the question here arises that despite of having several murder and other charges against the politicians who contest in the elections from jail should get all the VIP security facilities just like other politicians for the rest of their life or not.
