New Delhi: On Tuesday, the police here arrested eight people on suspicion of human trafficking. Among those arrested, is a couple – Saira Begum and Aafaq Hussain who have been running this racket in Delhi’s Garstin Bastion (GB) Road along with six others.
All those arrested have been booked under the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA).
Initial reports suggest that this couple ran a group which till date has trafficked more than 5000 girls from Nepal and other areas including West Bengal, Odisha, Karnataka, Assam, Andhra Pradesh.
Out of this trafficking business the couple has made more than Rs 100 crore. They bought the girls for Rs 50,000 and sold then for around Rs 2 lakh. Also, the police in its report mentioned that the younger the girl the more the price the couple demanded from the buyer.
These girls were kept inside almirah and tunnels and were forced to sleep with their customers in cubicles.
