Congress announces Sheila Dikshit name for CM post in UP poll

New Delhi: Former Chief Minister of Delhi for three tenures and former Governor of Kerala Sheila Dikshit announced as the new face of chief ministerial post of Uttar Pradesh Congress for the upcoming state assembly polls in 2017.

Congress General Secretary Janardan Dwivedi at the party headquarters made this announcement in this regards.

Referring to media speculations he said, this is for the first time your assumption proved right that Sheila Dikshit would be the face of Congress in UP for chief ministerial post.

When media persons asked that there are corruption charges on Dikshit, how can party has announced her name as the face for Chief ministerial candidate.

Senior Congress leader Gulam Nabi Azad said that there are corruption charges on several BJP’s Chief Ministers in other states as well, so the corruption allegations levelled against Dikshit did not matter.

Also, Prashant Kishor will be the party’s election strategist and this is an attempt by Congress to retain its hold in the state. Kishor has been roped keeping in mind that he is in favor of the Brahmin. His name was also suggested by Dikshit.

On the other hand there have been reports that Congress President Sonia Gandhi’s daughter Priyanka will also play a very vital role in the polls.

She is supposed to address as many as 150 rallies across UP ahead of the polls here. Till now, she has only campaigned in the parliament constituencies of her mother, Rae Bareli and brother Amethi.
