Soft spoken Urjit Patel becomes 24th Governor of RBI

Mumbai: Indian economist, consultant and banker Urjit Patel, who was earlier serving as the deputy Governor of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), today taken charge as the head of the India’s central banking institution (RBI).

According to RBI officials, “Urjit R. Patel assumed charge as the twenty-fourth Governor of the Reserve Bank of India, effective September 4, 2016 after serving as Deputy Governor since January 2013.”

Soft spoken Urjit becomes the successor of Raghuram Rajan, whose three year tenure ended on Sunday.

The handover ceremony is scheduled for Tuesday, as Monday is a holiday here owing to the Ganesh Chaturti festival.
